How Long Was Ted Bundy Out of Jail Before Police Caught Him Again

Just when you idea you've watched literally every single piece of footage about Ted Bundy, the internet goes and proves you wrong. Amazon but dropped a new docuseries, Falling for a Killer, which probably has you in a serious internet deep-swoop right at present. (Am I wrong? January 1974

According to Robert Keppel in his book The Riverman: Ted Bundy and I Chase for the Green River Killer, in 1974, Bundy was simply a guy working on his law caste at the University of Puget Sound when he broke into the apartment of a girl at the University of Washington and assaulted her in her slumber. Well, there were seven of them: Donna Gail Manson, Susan Rancourt, Roberta Parks, Brenda Carol Ball, Georgeann Hawkins, Denise Naslund, and Janice Ott, all aged xviii to 23 and all murdered in the Pacific Northwest (particularly the South Puget Sound) between March and July of the same year. Almost of them were college students, who Bundy routinely targeted.

October 1974 to November 1974

Obviously, the Academy of Puget Audio wasn't working out for him (or maybe he wanted to get away from the identify where he committed, ya know, viii murders?), considering in Oct of '74, Bundy transferred to law school at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Bundy moved again, this time to Colorado, where he murdered Caryn Campbell, Julie Cunningham, and Denise Oliverson. Shortly thereafter, he paid visits to Idaho and Utah, where he killed Lynette Culver and Susan Curtis, respectively.

It was in Utah that Bundy had his get-go run-in with the police. A trooper pulled him over for suspicious driving and plant cuffs and a ski mask in his automobile. Thankfully, Bundy decided to sell the car that he used to kidnap DaRonch (yeah, remember her? Ya girl came back to take Teddy downwardly!), which allowed the constabulary to seize it from the heir-apparent. Within, they plant pilus that linked him to several women who had disappeared, and bam: The case was all but closed.

October 1975

Bundy was arrested, obvi, and DaRonch identified him in a police lineup. Still, he was freed on bond...by his parents. Ugh! If it were me, I would take set bail at, like, $1 trillion.

February 1976

This is when Bundy's sh*t genuinely hits the fan. He was plant guilty of kidnapping DaRonch (le duh) and sentenced to 1 to 15 years in Utah Country Prison. Kay, proficient start, but THEN he was charged with murder in the case of Campbell, which got him transferred to prison in Aspen. And so but to recap…he killed, similar, a bajillion people over the bridge of 3 years and iv states and JUST At present gets sent to jail. 😑

June 1977

With and so much on the line, yous'd think Bundy would desire to lawyer up with the best defense squad his money could buy, simply instead he decided to serve equally his ain attorney. From in that location, he pulled some major Planes, Trains & Automobiles moves and hitchhiked to Denver, flew to Chicago, rode a railroad train to Ann Arbor, stole a machine and drove to Atlanta, and finally caught a omnibus to Tallahassee. Whew.

January 1978

What's a newly escaped serial killer gonna practice one time he's back in the earth? You lot guessed it: Kill some more than people. He pulled up to Florida Country University, where some Chi Omega sisters took him in. Shortly after arriving, he murdered two of the sisters in their sleep and attacked three more.

At this indicate, he was pretty damn sure the constabulary were on to him (spoiler alert: they were), so he peaced out of Tallahassee. Except, whoops, the auto he was driving was reported stolen and he got pulled over. He probably would accept been arrested for the stolen car fifty-fifty if it weren't for the murder spree under his chugalug…but as it were, he was a hundred percent totally definitely busted.

June 1979 to July 1979

Bundy'southward trial for the Chi Omega murders was the outset trial to exist nationally televised. After a whole month of deliberation (did they really demand that long??), Bundy was found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder AND three counts of attempted first-degree murder (for the assaults). Oh, and two counts of burglary. The punishment? Multiple expiry sentences.

Btw, Bundy's longtime girlfriend Carol Ann Boone was testifying on his behalf during the trial and since Bundy was his own lawyer, he really cross-examined his own GF. While doing so, he straight-upward proposed…and she said yes. Then he announced to the whole courtroom that because of an obscure Florida police force that makes any declaration of marriage in front of a judge in a court legally binding, he and Boone were at present officially married. In the years between his sentencing and his death, Bundy confessed to all the murders that police knew about plus a ton more they didn't. It has never been proven, merely according to his own accounts, Bundy may have started murdering well before '74…even when he was a child.
